As I was reading my devotions this morning … it centered on the importance of “thankfulness.” This truly is a season of giving and being thankful. Today’s Scripture is from Psalm 100:4, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving.” God wants us to be thankful for all things – not just the things we choose to be thankful for – and enter His gates with thanksgiving. This means thankfulness for the good and the bad in life. It’s hard to be thankful…..
I would like to share a story of something that happened at a book signing last weekend. An elderly lady came up to my table where I was signing books and I told her what my book was about. She indicated she really didn’t care much for poetry. I handed her my book and suggested perhaps she could read a couple of the poems to get a feel for my writing style. After several minutes, she looked up at me…..
A friend on Facebook shared a Dennis the Menace Cartoon where Dennis is pointing to the sky saying, “If Heaven is that pretty on the bottom, think how it must look on top!” That got me to thinking about my poem, “I Want to Peek at Heaven.” I was inspired to write this poem when the sky looked exceptionally gorgeous one day, and I thought wouldn’t it be great if we could just peel back the sky and see Heaven…..
Yesterday, at church, the pastor talked about a godly perspective on money. We often worry about money, and we also often spend too much on things we do not need. If we would follow God’s instructions and fearlessly give in tithe and to others, we surely would have more than we ever imagined. Fear, however, often gets in the way. Fear of not having enough, fear of not being able to pay the bills, fear of being penniless and not…..
In my book, I feature one of my poems: “Knee-Mail.” Here is the backstory behind that poem: In this high-tech world of ours, with everyone Facebooking, Twittering, emailing, texting, cell-phoning, etc., many, many times throughout the day, I realized that we can reach other people with these various forms of communication, but we cannot reach God in any way outside of prayer. Prayer is even more powerful than the high-tech equipment we use to communicate. The only way ever to…..
As Emotional Wellness Month now comes to a close, we must remember that our emotional well-being is important every day throughout the year. What causes your tears? Whatever we may be going through, always know that God sees and understands. “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” Jeremiah 31:25 Photo by Guilherme Stecanella on Unsplash
It’s always amazing when we see a rainbow in the sky. I was amazed this morning when I came across a photo that an airline pilot had taken while passing through a rainbow. How awesome to see it from the pilot’s perspective from the sky. I wanted to share this photo with an except from my poem, “The Rainbow,” that you can read in its entirety from my inspirational poem book, “The Fingers of God,” available here.
In my book, I feature one of my poems: “The Depth of the Well.” Here is the backstory behind that poem: I wrote this poem while in Arizona. I was visiting one of those old-time, western shopping towns where you feel you are in a western movie set, but it’s really for shopping in board-walk shops with swinging doors. While there, I saw a wooden well off in the distance. I strolled over to it to look down the well…..
In my book, I feature one of my poems: “The Fingers of God.” Here is the backstory behind that poem: A friend once told me, when the sun broke through the clouds with rays of the sun shining down, that they called that “the Fingers of God.” I thought that was awesome and wrote the poem “The Fingers of God,” which became the title for my book. It is a perfect depiction of God’s love reaching down to us saying…..
There are so many things in life that can inspire us, and can also make us stop and take a moment to appreciate the beauty God shares with us. One example would be the beautiful sunset the other evening reflecting God’s artistic beauty in the heavens. I was inspired to write a poem about a beautiful rainbow several years ago, but one stanza of that poem is appropriate for this picture as well: What better frame for God’s deep love……
