I was asked by my Rotary Club to read a Valentine’s Poem on Valentine’s Day. In all of the years I have written about love and inspiration, I’ve never written a Valentine’s Poem! So, I proceeded to write a poem entitled, “Valentine’s Day,” which I read last Thursday at Rotary and have posted to this blog. Valentine’s Day is so much fun! It is full of giving, receiving, and anticipation of hearing from special loved ones. Many receive cards, candy,…..
I recently had a line running through my head….”A River Runs Deep.” I jotted it down and pondered the meaning for awhile. I felt God wanted me to write about the Holy Spirit within us, and that the Holy Spirit IS that River. I then wrote the above poem, “A River Runs Deep.” Living Water is what Jesus offered to the Samaritan Woman at the well. When Jesus asked her for a drink, the Samaritan Woman said to him: “’You…..
It’s Game Day! Super Bowl Sunday is an annual championship game day … a game looked forward to and watched by millions. It’s considered an “unofficial” American Holiday, and is the 2nd largest day for U.S. food consumption, after Thanksgiving. (Nothing like barbecue wings, pizza, and chips and dip, etc., while cheering on your favorite team!) It has become one of the most-watched television programs, with millions tuning in to watch the Super Bowl. It also shows some of the…..
This past Monday was International Holocaust Remembrance Day. (The Holocaust was a genocide of some six million European Jews … approximately two-thirds of the Jewish population in Europe between 1941 and 1945). I wanted to take a moment to write about Irene Sendler. She was a WWII Nurse in the Warsaw ghetto who took a stand against the Nazis by smuggling and rescuing 2,500 Jewish infants and children from the Nazi Regime. She was captured and they broke both…..
So, I got to thinking the other day about all the cell phone usage going on, not only among youth, but really just about everybody. Let’s think back for a moment down Memory Lane (which might really “date” me), but: I remember when NO ONE had cell phones, and when they first came out, they were huge honkin’ things (that really no one in their right mind would want to carry), but, regardless of their size, everyone envied those who…..
Recently, I woke up in the middle of the night with the thought that God would like everyone to take a risk in reading the Bible. I often wake up in the middle of the night with a line running through my head, and must sit up and write it down so I do not forget by morning. In writing poetry, this happens frequently. I write when inspired, even in the middle of the night. In my sleep-fogged haze, while…..
As we enter a New Year, it perhaps should be expected that we may encounter a “new normal” along the way. We might ask….What is “normal” anyway? The dictionary indicates it means conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected. This would possibly than mean that a “new normal” would be a new standard, perhaps unusual, out of the ordinary, not expected. It could be looked upon as a renewal in our lives or something that has occurred that we…..
The New Year is always an exciting time. It is a time of renewal, setting goals, putting away the past and beginning the new, looking forward to a year of faith, hope and love. Two top resolutions many people make is getting in shape and better health, both of which are always awesome goals. Another goal we should all strive for is getting in better spiritual shape. We can do this by reading the Bible daily, praying often, seeking God’s…..
Christmas is such an awesome holiday and all that it stands for. Yes, it can bring us closer to family and friends with the sharing of gifts and food, and spending time with loved ones. But the real meaning is in celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who came to earth to die for our sins. This event is worthy of our taking a quiet moment this day to sit in solitude and contemplation, and thank…..
The holidays are always a wonderful time of giving. Oftentimes we feel within our soul a strong desire to give to those we love and to give to those less fortunate. There’s something special about giving. It makes us feel good, and it makes us feel more loving toward others. It also helps us feel closer to God. Have you ever given a gift to someone you loved or was in need, and you felt good about it the rest…..
